A warm welcome to you on this beautiful Wednesday! I came up with this Speaking idea bright and early today.
INTERESTS. HOBBIES. INCLINATIONS.
LEVEL: PRE-INTERMEDIATE/UPPER-INTERMEDIATE
What I like about the following exercise is that it not only enables learners to say if they like something or not but also to measure their interest. Moreover, it gives them an opportunity to reason why the interest/inclination is big or small.
Target Language 1: to fancy, to be keen on, to be into, to be nuts about, to be mad about,to obsessed with, to be addicted to, to be hooked on
Target Language 2: types of interest, spheres of life, names of hobbies
Target Language 3: Present Simple
Task. Make up mini-dialogues with your teacher. Choose one option for your answer.
Example:
Teacher: Do you do photography?
Student (option 1): Oh yes! I am keen on photography + say what you like about it.
Student (option 2): Not really. I am not keen on photography + give your reason why.
LET'S START!
Teacher: Do you do martial arts? Do you go jogging? Do you do painting? Do you play board games? Do you use social networks? Do you do yoga? Do you keep to fad diets? Do you throw parties? Do you take business courses? Do you go on picnics? Do you like travelling round your country? Do you know history well? Do you know geography well? Do you take part in flashmobs? Do you listen to classical music? Do you do windsurfing?
This activity should take off! Good luck with it!
Yours,
YK
