My dear readers,
Try this new speaking activity of mine which is suitable both for Elementary and Pre-Intermediate students (though you can easily adapt it to even higher levels).
For this exercise you will need expressions which can be divided into "Active" and "Passive" pastime.* This division can be subjective at times.
* By active pastime I mean types of activities which require physical exercise or load.
Target Language 1: Past Simple
Target Language 2: Future Simple
Target Language 3: Daily activities
LIST OF ACTIVITIES:
[- to have dinner - to work out - to solve important questions - to visit a business seminar
- to ride horses - to meet and have a chat over coffee - to go to a yoga class
- to go on a business trip - to visit an exhibition - to go sightseeing - to go jogging ...]
LIST OF NAMES TO USE IN THE EXERCISE:
Adam* (active) Patrick (passive) Barbara (passive) Nick (passive) Bob (active)
Steve (active) Bella (passive) Margaret (passive) ...
Task. Make up mini-dialogues using the 1st or the 2nd example.
Example 1.
Teacher: When did you see Adam*?
Student: I saw Adam yesterday*.
Teacher: What did you do together?
Student: We worked out.
Example 2.
Teacher: When will you see Adam?
Student: I will see Adam tomorrow.
Teacher: What will you do together?
Student: We will work out.
* Ask your students to give their own answers regarding the time when each activity took or will take place.
Good luck again!
YK xoxo
